Organic ashwagandha root is a single herb with an earthy aroma and a gently bitter flavour. Our cut root gives you a loose herb to simmer and strain, with no powders or other ingredients in the mix.

    Brew

For a light preparation, gently simmer 1 level teaspoon of cut root in 250 mL water for 15 minutes, then strain well. Add extra water if needed. This is a preparation guide, not a therapeutic dose. Check the precautions below before use.

    Drink

Enjoy warm, with a little milk or honey if you prefer a softer flavour.

    Ingredients

    Frequently asked questions

    What is ashwagandha root?

Ashwagandha is Withania somnifera, also called withania or Indian ginseng. This product contains organic dried root in cut form. It is different from Panax ginseng.

Is this ashwagandha powder or extract?

It is cut root. The pieces need to be simmered and strained. They do not dissolve like an instant drink, and the product has no standardised extract strength.

What does ashwagandha root tea taste like?

The flavour is earthy, woody and slightly bitter. Milk or a small amount of honey can round out the taste.

    Does ashwagandha contain caffeine?

Pure ashwagandha root is naturally caffeine free. Any caffeine in a blend would come from other ingredients.

Is cut root the same as the ashwagandha used in studies?

Different studies use different preparations, often concentrated extracts. Results from those studies do not establish the effects of a cup made from this cut root.

    Who should avoid ashwagandha?

Avoid during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with current or previous liver problems, or with hormone-sensitive prostate cancer. It is not recommended for people with thyroid or autoimmune disorders or before surgery. Ask your doctor or pharmacist before use if you take medicines. Stop use and seek medical advice for vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, dark urine or yellowing skin or eyes.

How should I store ashwagandha root?

Keep sealed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, strong odours and moisture. Use a dry spoon and follow the best before date on your pack.
