Weight loss Tips: Low Carb Diet prevent diabetes and weightgain?

    Weight loss Tips:

A recent studies have shown that Type 2 Diabetes, one of the most widespread diseases around the world, can be prevented and managed by diet alone in many cases!

Weight loss Tips: A low carb and low sugar diet can also lead to weight loss

There are so many weight and diet related diseases around the world that account for numerous life issues and even death in our population: young and old. However, what if there was a way to help prevent or even rewind the effects of one of the biggest diseases that affect millions of people globally?

Recent studies have shown that Type 2 Diabetes, one of the most widespread diseases around the world, can be prevented and managed by diet alone in many cases. Changes to your diet, specifically a low carb diet and low to no sugar diets can decrease your chances of getting diabetes and help manage the symptoms for those who already have it.

In the US, spending on diabetes diagnosis and treatment totalled $101 billion in 2013 and has grown 36 times faster than spending on heart disease. This suggests that patients and the general public are being told to take prescription drugs to manage type 2 diabetes instead of being told to change their diets.

At the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Professor of Nutrition, Barbara Gower, PhD said: “Medication if needed because of diabetes, is a disease of carbohydrate intolerance; if the patient does not eat carbs, they do not have to use the medication”.

She goes on to say that patients are thrilled when they can stop taking their insulin injections and that many patients claim they are never informed to make changes to their diets, just to take the medication that is prescribed.

This isn’t the first instance of medication being prescribed rather than looking deeper into what patients can do first to try and reverse or prevent the symptoms of disease. The medical prescriptions industry is a HUGE money maker everywhere in the world but at the cost of lives.

Barbara uses the ‘cigarette’ analogy, “We know it is bad to smoke, so we tell patients not to smoke. Why don’t we do the same thing with sugar and processed starches”.

So what changes can you make to go low-carb?

Of course going completely carb-free is near impossible, but what researchers are saying is to restrict carbohydrates that are processed and focus on healthy alternatives, fresh fruit and vegetables and choosing food that is as close to its natural state as possible.

When you are shopping at the supermarket for food, try to go for food that is not packaged. Usually, a good rule of thumb is to avoid the middle aisles entirely and go for the fresh fruit and veg sections, meat and dairy.

Staying away from processed sugars is a very easy way to start this diet change. Not only will the help to prevent insulin spikes in your blood and prevent diabetes, but it also is one of the best ways to lose weight or maintain weight.

Of course as well as a low-carb, low-sugar diet - teaming this with exercise and staying hydrated, including green tea, can and will help to prevent not only diabetes but a lot of other health risks and diseases.
