Superfoods that are More Powerful Than Kale?

What Superfoods are More Powerful Than Kale?

Kale is not just a superfood these days, due to its popularity it seems to be part of everyday vocabulary. You can’t go past any trendy café without noticing the prevalence of kale on the menu.

However, there happen to more green superfoods whose ‘superfood’ status is even better than kale. Some of them are a little easier to find than others, but the benefits are certainly worth checking out.

    Parsley

Its fresh sprigs are often used as a humble garnish to the main affair. However, parsley as a food can contribute to your vitamin K intake. Vitamin K is best known for the maintenance of normal blood coagulation. Parsley also contains plenty of vitamin C and has properties that help to prevent rheumatoid arthritis; a painful autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the joints and other areas of the body. Parsley is best consumed fresh.

    Paw Paw Leaf tea

Paw paw, also known as papaya or papaw, has traditionally been used for hundreds of years as a health tonic. The leaf of the paw paw is high in papain, an enzyme which may help improve digestion and alleviate constipation. Paw paw may also help break down carbohydrates in the digestive tract, improve important nutrient absorption and support a healthy immune system*.

    Spinach

Just like Popeye got all of his energy from, spinach contains a high level of iron which is very important for the health of your muscles and moving oxygen around your body. Spinach may also help to curb hunger pangs and food cravings through a compound known as thylakoids. Thylakoids are sourced in the leaf membranes of the spinach.

    Romaine Lettuce

This lettuce is one of the most nutritious lettuce of all and contains high levels of vitamin B, vitamin K and folic acid, which aid in the prevention of high cholesterol. Romaine lettuce’s high levels of folate may also help to combat depression. Does this explain why snails always seem so relaxed and happy?

    Collard Greens

Containing vitamin A, vitamin K and vitamin C, collard greens are great eaten raw or lightly steamed. They are famed for being beneficial for supporting the digestive system and helping to reduce your cholesterol levels. Check out some of these collard greens recipes, which we found from Martha Stewart, that you might like.

    Chard

Chard contains numerous polyphenol antioxidants, including anthocyanin. These antioxidants can offer protection against diabetes by regulating the blood sugar levels and act as an anti-inflammatory agent.

    Watercress

Watercress is a good source of vitamin C, vitamin B6, and beta carotene. Through its properties, is it said that watercress has the potential to prevent some cardiovascular diseases.

If you are looking for some extra superpower, it is also hard to go past matcha green tea. This tea has potent antioxidant properties and contains plenty of benefits for your body and your mind. Some of these benefits include a potential to help with weight loss, support of a healthy immune function, properties that help to alkalize the body and clear out toxins, a preventative against heart disease, and offers a gentle way to unwind the mind and energise the body.
