Plastic and Cancerous Compounds in Tea Bags

We all know drinking tea instead of coffee is probably better for your health. But how we drink our tea may be of primary concern.

A recent article raises valid questions about the safety of tea bags. You know the ones, with a fancy pyramid shape, designed to allow the tea leaves to expand during infusion.

The newer tea bags are made with a variety of different plastics; some are nylon, some are made of viscose rayon, and others are made of thermoplastic, PVC or polypropylene. Ouch, this does not sound good!

We all know the dangers of plastic chemicals leaching out of plastic containers and bottles in microwave ovens. Now we need to be concerned about drinking tea steeped through heated plastic.

More bad news is that paper tea bags may be just as bad, or worse, than the plastic ones because many of them are treated with epichlorohydrin, a compound mainly used in the production of epoxy resins.

At Bondi Beach Tea Co. we only use loose leaf tea. The less mankind tampers with nature, the better, in my opinion. Sure it may take 30 seconds extra to use a good infuser but not only does the tea taste better it has no plastic chemicals in the tea.

    Drink up and enjoy!
