    CUSTOM TEA BLENDING

Turn your tea idea into a formula that can be sampled, refined and made consistently.

Custom blending is for brands that want an original formula rather than an established tea with a new label. You may arrive with exact percentages, a product you want to improve, or simply a clear picture of how the finished tea should taste.

From our Sydney facility, we develop tea and herbal blends for businesses in Australia and overseas. We consider flavour, aroma, appearance, brew method, ingredient behaviour, pack format and target price together. A blend only works when those parts agree.

Development of your own tea blend, including the sample process.

    Sydney developed

Formulated and produced in Australia for local and overseas brands.

    Multiple formats

Loose leaf, plant-based pyramid tea bags and bulk blend supply.

Custom blending begins where private label stops

Private label uses one of our established blends under your branding. It is the quicker route when you want to test a range without paying for formulation.

Custom blending develops a new formula around your brief. It involves formulation, sampling, feedback and a final production specification.

If an established blend already suits the job, we will say so. You can read about that simpler option on our private label tea page.

A good formula has to work beyond the tasting table

A small sample can taste excellent and still be difficult to manufacture, pack or price. We develop with the finished product in mind from the beginning.

    The cup

The flavour, aroma, colour and finish must suit your customer and the way the tea will be brewed.

    The format

Loose leaf and pyramid tea bags need different cuts, densities and ingredient choices.

    The production run

The ingredients must distribute evenly enough for one pouch or tea bag to resemble the next.

    The price

Ingredient grades, percentages and fill weight must make sense at your intended retail price.

Sometimes a brief pulls in two directions. A very fine powder may support the ingredient story but escape through a tea bag. A striking whole flower may look beautiful but make the blend inconsistent. We explain those trade-offs before they become expensive.

What makes a useful blending brief?

You do not need to arrive with percentages. You do need to tell us what the finished product is meant to do for the customer and for your business.

    • the customer you want to reach and the countries where you plan to sell
    • the flavour, aroma, colour and strength you want
    • ingredients you want included, avoided or used only at a subtle level
    • whether the tea should contain caffeine
    • how it will be brewed, including milk, hot water, iced or cold-brew use
    • loose-leaf, pyramid tea bag or bulk format
    • your proposed pack size, quantity, target retail price and launch timing
    • any label claims, allergens or market-specific requirements already known

    How custom blend development works

    1. We review the brief. We clarify the market, flavour, format, quantity and commercial goal.
    2. We check feasibility. Ingredient availability, cut size, tea-bag suitability and likely cost are considered before formulation.
    3. We formulate internally. Our blending team develops the ratios and tests bench variations against the agreed brief.
    4. You receive samples. You brew them using the intended method and give us specific tasting feedback.
    5. We make the included refinement. One structured adjustment is normally part of the development scope.
    6. We prepare the production formula. Once approved, the final ratios become the basis for quoting and manufacturing.

What the AUD $420 development fee covers

The custom blend development fee is AUD $420 per blend. You do not need any tea blending experience or a finished recipe. You will work with our experienced blending team, which includes two tea sommeliers.

    Your development fee includes:

    • A 16-question questionnaire covering your customer, flavour direction, ingredients, tea format and commercial goals.
    • A recommended blending direction from our team for your approval.
    • One physically blended 100g sample sent to you for tasting.
    • One additional re-blend if the first sample needs adjusting.

Sample freight, specially sourced ingredients, external testing, packaging and production are priced separately. Any further re-blends are also priced separately.

Ingredients are more than a list on the label

Every herb used in our tea blends is 100% organic. We maintain supplier certificates, Certificates of Analysis and batch records to support our organic claims. Relevant documentation can be provided for the ingredients selected for your project.

Plant materials vary in density, moisture, flavour strength and particle size. A light flower can rise to the top of a bulk blend while a heavy seed settles. A root may need a smaller cut to infuse in the same time as a leaf. These details affect consistency, fill weight and the way the finished tea brews.

We do not build a formula from an ingredient wish list alone. The finished blend still needs to taste good, brew properly and remain practical to produce.

Choose the format before the formula is final

    Loose leaf

The most flexible option for visible herbs, larger pieces and a first commercial run. Fill weight and pack size can be adjusted around the blend.

    Pyramid tea bags

Our Soilon pyramid bags are plant based and leave room for larger-cut tea and herbs. Fine powders, sticky ingredients and very bulky pieces need to be assessed first.

    Bulk blend

A suitable option when you already have a packer or want to fill the finished tea in your own facility. The blend is supplied to an agreed production specification.

Developed in Sydney for brands in Australia and overseas

We work with businesses in Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom and other markets. Your destination affects ingredient suitability, label wording, available documentation, freight and importer responsibilities, so it belongs in the brief from the start.

Our Sydney facility is registered with the US FDA. Registration is not product approval and does not replace the responsibilities of the brand owner or importer. It does provide an established Australian production base for suitable US projects.

Once we know where the product will be sold, we can identify the practical questions that need to be resolved before the formula and packaging are finalised.

    You own the final formula

Once the development fee has been paid and you approve the final blend, the completed recipe is signed off as your intellectual property.

We provide the final ratios in a clear, percentage-based production format that any suitably equipped tea manufacturer, anywhere in the world, can follow.

You are free to manufacture the blend with Bondi Beach Tea Co. or take the formula to another manufacturer.

Development and production are separate decisions

Approving a sample does not lock you into a large manufacturing run. We price production from the final formula, selected format, fill weight, packaging and quantity.

Some custom ingredients or printed packaging have their own supplier minimums. We identify those commitments before you approve production.

What determines the finished production price?

The development fee creates the formula. The manufacturing price is then based on the product you approve.

    • the final ingredient percentages and grades
    • whether ingredients are regularly stocked or sourced for the project
    • the loose-leaf, tea-bag or bulk format
    • the fill weight and finished quantity
    • the pouch, jar, box, label or printed packaging
    • the delivery country and any project-specific documentation

Quoting from the approved formula gives you a useful number. Quoting from a loose idea usually does not.

    Questions about custom tea blending

Can you manufacture a recipe I already own?

Yes. Send the exact percentages, ingredient specifications, intended format and expected quantity. We review manufacturability, sourcing and confidentiality before quoting.

Can you develop a blend if I do not know the ratios?

Yes. A clear customer, flavour and format brief is enough to begin the discussion. Developing the ratios is part of the formulation work.

Can you match a tea I already like?

A reference tea can help us understand the strength, aroma and direction you prefer. The aim is to develop your own formula, not make an exact copy of another brand's product.

How much does custom blend development cost?

The custom blend development fee is AUD $420 per blend. It includes the 16-question questionnaire, our blending team's recommended direction, a 100g sample and one additional re-blend if needed. Sample freight and any specially sourced ingredients are quoted separately.

    What is the production minimum?

The minimum depends on the final formula, format and packaging. A regularly stocked loose-leaf ingredient may support a smaller run than a specially sourced botanical or custom-printed component. We confirm the real minimum before production is approved.

Can the same formula be packed as loose leaf and tea bags?

Sometimes, but not automatically. Tea bags may need a different cut or a slight ratio adjustment to brew at the same strength and remain consistent during filling.

Do you work with overseas businesses?

Yes. Tell us the destination country at the beginning so the formula, documents, packaging and freight can be considered together.

    How long does development take?

Timing depends on the brief, ingredient availability and current blending schedule. We give you a realistic sample timeframe when the development scope is confirmed.

    Start with the blend brief

Tell us your country, target customer, flavour direction, ingredients, format, quantity and intended launch timing. If some of those decisions are still open, say so. We will help you work out what needs to be settled first.
