Foods to Eat for a Healthy Sleep

Foods to Eat for a Healthy Sleep

Sleep is such an under-appreciated luxury. Wrong! Instead of being one of your desired luxuries, good quality sleep is required as part of a healthy lifestyle and should be on the top of your list of must-haves.

Poor quality sleep has been linked to many severe health conditions, including depression and anxiety, heart disease, diabetes, obesity and various others.

There are several ways that you can help your body to maintain its sleep patterns, without the need for drugs. For example, take a look at our recent blog that addressed four natural treatments for sleep deprivation. Our team of health experts at Bondi Beach Tea Co. have been at it again and recently discovered several foods contain some sleep-promoting benefits as well. Below are five of the top foods that we think you should check out.

    Top Sleep Promoting Foods

    1. Kiwi fruit

Kiwi fruit is laden with serotonin which is the hormone associated with sleep. Kiwi fruits have been linked with both better quality and lengthier sleep. Kiwi fruit can be deliciously sweet and can be enjoyed with the skin on or off.

    1. Walnuts

Walnuts contain melatonin, a hormone within the brain that is responsible for sleep quality having control of your sleep and wake cycles.

    1. Pumpkin Seeds

With high levels of zinc and magnesium, pumpkin seeds can be beneficial for sleep. Magnesium helps to promote melatonin and GABA, which is a receptor of the nervous system that allows you to catch some zzz’s. Zinc, on the other hand, is responsible for helping to contribute to sleep quality and regulation as well.

    1. Tuna

Tuna is an excellent contributor to our daily recommended amounts of vitamins B6 and B12. These vitamins help to produce serotonin and melatonin, which are renown for healthy sleep habits.

    1. Bananas

Going wild over bananas; well at least when it comes to healthy sleep. Bananas are loaded with vitamin B6, and as we mentioned above with tuna, this helps to produce the sleep-promoting hormones.

Why not combine a few of these ingredients and mix up your own creations if you are having trouble resting your head. If you are looking for a bit of inspiration, you might like to check out this tasty pumpkin and walnut salad recipe that we sourced on the Sanitarium Health and Wellbeing website to kick your creative skills into gear.

Bondi Beach Tea Co. Snooze Tea also offers some beneficial sleep-promoting properties. If you lack some quality sleep, our natural tea contains herbs that are renowned for their advantages for sleep. Find out more here.
