We’ve found a chocolate smoothie recipe that might just satisfy your cravings and give your body a health boost at the same time.

    Did you know that cravings for chocolate might not only mean that you’re after a quick sugar fix, but can actually be a sign that your body is lacking in magnesium? Longing after the sweet flavour of chocolate can be satisfied by this easy chocolate smoothie recipe. With the chocolate flavour, you’ve been sweating on, and a stack less calories to get rid of afterwards.

    Healthy Chocolate Smoothie Recipe

    First, let’s talk about some of the key ingredients of our chocolate smoothie recipe.

    Raw Cacao

    Raw cacao is loaded with phytonutrients that are helpful for fighting off fatigue, keeping your blood pressure in check, and boosting the health of your cardiovascular system. Because of its bitter taste, many of the chocolate bars that contain cacao are sweetened, which therefore dilutes and beneficial properties of the phytonutrients.

    Spinach

    Spinach added to our chocolate smoothie recipe gives a denseness to the mixture. What’s even better is the fact spinach has some great nutritional advantages too; a good source of iron, spinach also contains properties that can aid in raising your levels of serotonin. Just like our Bondi Snooze Tea, it is well documented that serotonin is a natural chemical in our body that helps you to get a better night’s sleep. It also boosts your mood and helps to maintain a healthy appetite.

    Flaxseeds

    Flaxseeds too promote serotonin levels in our body. They have many health advantages, which you can read more about on one of our previous blogs here, and are an excellent source of fibre. This can be very beneficial for those who need to keep an eye on their blood sugar levels as well.

    Psyllium

    This source of fibre is great for your digestive system and to help you feel full for longer.

    Unsweetened Almond Milk

    Also being a promoter of serotonin, almond milk is one of those alternatives to dairy which offers plenty of other health benefits for you.

    And now, for our grand finale! Bondi Beach Tea Co. chocolate smoothie recipe that is actually good for you.

    Ingredients:

    1 x handful of raw cacao nibs

    1 x handful of spinach (fresh or frozen is acceptable)

    1 ½ scoops of chocolate flavoured whey protein

    1 x handful of powdered psyllium husks (for fibre)

    15 grams of ground flaxseeds

    15 grams of nut butter (we like almond or cashew)

    1 cup of unsweetened almond milk (if you prefer a thinner smoothie, add a little more)

    1 x handful of ice cubes. 

    Method:

    Blend all ingredients together in a blender for approximately 30 seconds and enjoy your chocolatey goodness immediately. This recipe serves two.
