  • Which is better for you Matcha Tea vs. Green Tea?

    Matcha Tea Vs. Green Tea

Matcha and Green Tea have widely contributed to healthy lifestyles the world over for years.

Both provide all sorts of different health benefits like weight loss, improved heart health and stress relief. So which one offers more health benefits, and is one inherently ‘better’ than the other?

What is the difference between Matcha and Green Tea?

Green tea comes from the Camellia Sinensis Tea Plant (which is also where black tea comes from but is produced differently). The tea leaves are harvested and then quickly heated by either steaming or pan-firing, they are then dried to prevent too much oxidation from occurring (this causes the leaves to turn brown and alter their flavour)

Matcha literally means “powdered green tea”.  When you have a traditional green tea, components from the leaves are infused with hot water, and then the leaves are discarded. However, with matcha, you are actually drinking all of the leaves which has been ground down into a fine powder. As well as this difference, tea plants are covered with shade cloths before they are harvested, this triggers the growth of leaves with better flavour and texture.

What are the health benefits of Green Tea?

Green tea has numerous health benefits and was traditionally used in Chinese and Indian medicine to control bleeding and heal wounds, aid digestion, improve heart and mental health and regulate body temperatures.

Extensive studies have shown that green tea has positive effects on everything from weight loss to liver disorders, type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer's disease. It also plays a part in preventing cancer, high cholesterol levels, chances of having a stroke, and inflammatory diseases.

As well as this, regularly consuming green tea helps to speed up your metabolism because it contains antioxidants and polyphenols, and a fast metabolism means more weight loss!

So does Matcha have more health benefits than Green Tea?

Because Matcha is ground up green tea, it contains the same benefits as Green Tea, however, because it is produced in a way that keeps all the leaves in the end product, drinking matcha powder is the equivalent of drinking 3 cups of green tea!

The higher level of concentrated antioxidants delivers a powerful punch of health benefits to your body. Because of this, you can reap the rewards of green tea faster and more efficiently than just having one cup of green tea a day.

Studies have also shown that matcha is more effective than green tea at fighting bacteria, viruses and fungi because of the way it is produced. It also contains higher levels of L-theanine than other types of green tea. L-theanine is responsible for helping your brain and body relax, reducing stress and increasing mental relaxation.

Bondi Beach Tea Co. Bondi Pure Green Matcha Tea is perfect for anyone who doesn’t have the time of day to drink 3 cups of green tea to gain the health benefits. By drinking just one cup of matcha to equivalent that of 3 cups of green tea, you are sure to start seeing and feeling the regenerative health properties of matcha!
