Skin Cleaning Foods, the Simple Solution to Better Skin Health

Glowing, freshly radiant skin does not need to cost you a fortune on creams and special lotions. Naturally, beautiful skin starts with diet. Pucker up and pamper your eyeballs on these basic skin clearing foods that will help to keep your skin gorgeous.

Diet is as important for your skin as it is for the rest of your body. Once consumed, foods are broken down into vitamins, minerals and amino acids, all which play pivotal roles for your overall body and skin health.

Following are some do’s and do nots of foods for the benefit of good skin health.

    1. Do not deprive your body of protein

Protein helps to build collagen through the intake of amino acids. Collagen makes your skin strong, supple and can reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Lean meats, poultry, fish, eggs, seeds and nuts, legumes, and soy products are all some sources of good protein that you might like to consider.

    1. A low GI diet may help reduce acne

Replacing refined and processed foods with nutritional foods like fruit, vegetables and healthy sources of Omega-3 good fats, may help acne sufferers. Omega-3 is also skin strengthening.

    1. Be mindful of your dairy intake

Some nutritionists believe dairy might be a contributor to poor skin health. This is not proven or supported by studies, however, successful reports have arisen from some practitioners who have had clients remove diary completely from their diets. You could always opt for diary-free alternatives if you were keen to give this a try.

    1. Eat lots of vegetables

A diet full of fresh vegetables, in particular colours of red, yellow and green are apparent for good skin health.

Tomatoes specifically are good for reducing sun damage due to their high content of the antioxidant lycopene, which helps to fight free radicals. Cooking tomatoes will remove the antioxidant from the plant cells, making it easily absorbed. Including some healthy fats such as olive, coconut or avocado oil will also help with this process. Usually, the redder the tomato, the more lycopene it contains.

This theory is the same for the yellow and green vegetables – the deeper and brighter the colour, the better they are for you. Choose darker greens like spinach or kale, and dandelion greens are an even fitter option. These vegies also help in the fight against free radicals, which over time can support the skin around your eyes and slow those signs of aging.

    1. Enjoy an avocado, every day

Include avocado in a salad, or enjoy some avo in your favourite smoothie. Avocados supply the skin with phytonutrients and healthy fats.

    1. Chlorophyll

Chlorophyll oxygenates the skin and works its magic from the inside out, keeping skin healthy. Bondi Beach Tea Co.’s Matcha green tea is a great supplier of chlorophyll, and it tastes good too.

    1. Keep up your water intake

Hydration will help to flush out the toxins from your body. You might like to include a cup or two of herbal teas to mix up your water intake as well.

    1. Include vitamins into your diet, particularly vitamins C, A and E

Vitamin C has collagen-boosting properties. Strawberries, kale, citrus fruits like oranges and lemons, strawberries, kiwi fruit and broccoli can be good sources of vitamin C.

Antioxidant-rich vitamins A and E can be found in foods like pumpkin, sweet potato, carrots, wheat germ, and almond butter. Turmeric is also a very good source of antioxidants.

It’s not about how many creams and lotions you can fit on your face. It’s about eating healthy for good skin and overall health. So, get out there and enjoy some of nature’s finest.
